Axiom has developed an innovative power amplifier product that achieves the performance required to meet the 3GPP standards for GSM/GPRS mobile phones. The Axiom PA integrates the power amplifier core, the power controller and the matching circuits on the same die bringing the full cost advantage of CMOS technology. A low cost plastic leadframe based package is used in order to minimize cost. The AX502 quad-band GSM/GPRS PA is the first product to commercialize Axiom's proprietary technology. The most important achievement in moving the power amplifier to Silicon CMOS is the elimination of the many off-die components and the multi-chip module inherent in GaAs power amplifier implementations.
