Axiom Microdevices Wins AeA “Outstanding Private Company” Award
Company recognized by peers for exceptional achievements in bringing to market the industry’s first fully integrated Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor power amplifier for GSM/GPRS mobile handsets

IRVINE, Calif., May 2, 2008 – Axiom Microdevices Inc. announced today that it has earned the distinction of “Outstanding Private Company” at the 15th Annual AeA High-Tech Innovation Awards, presented by the Orange County and Inland Empire Council of AeA. Axiom was among Southern California’s top innovators in technology and education to be honored by AeA at the awards ceremony held on Tuesday, April 29.

During 2007, Axiom Microdevices was successful in shipping more than 10 million units of its quad-band GPRS CMOS power amplifier (PA) to handset manufacturers, and cellular handsets containing the CMOS PAs are now available to consumers in Asia, Eastern and Western Europe.

"It is a great honor to be recognized by our peers as this year’s ‘Outstanding Private Company,” said Brett Butler, chief executive officer, Axiom Microdevices. “I am pleased to accept this award and would like to thank the entire Axiom Microdevices team for their hard work and dedication to our continued success.”

Axiom Microdevices’ quad-band GPRS CMOS PA, designated the AX502, is based on Axiom’s patented technology which allows the use of 0.13-micrometer silicon CMOS process technology to integrate all of the functions between transmitter output and transmit/receive switch. Axiom Microdevices realizes power gain stages, small signal control circuitry and 50-ohm matching on a single die, achieving what was previously only viable with devices manufactured in proprietary gallium arsenide (GaAs) process technology and assembled in complex multichip module packaging.

“AeA was very pleased with the high-quality of nominations and the level of innovation was truly impressive,” said Don Hicks, executive director, AeA Orange County/Inland Empire. “AeA congratulates Axiom Microdevices and its employees for being selected as ‘Outstanding Private Company.’”

The 15th Annual AeA High-Tech Innovation Awards were presented at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine. AeA added several new categories to this year’s honorees. The AeA Engineering the Future Lifetime Acheivement Award was presented to Dr. Nicolaos G. Alexopoulos dean of The Henry Samueli School of Engineering at UC Irvine. Kevin McDonald of Alvaka Networks was awarded the Excellence in Government Advocacy award for developing technology leadership committees for California legislators. In addition, the Harvey Mudd College Green Engineering Award was presented for the first time to a company celebrating sustainability in technology.

The awards recognized local companies, individuals and products in the technology field that drive innovation in Orange County and the Inland Empire. In addition, AeA recognized educators and students for their innovative use of math, science and technology in the classroom and the community in conjunction with Project Tomorrow, the nation’s leading education nonprofit group focused on preparing today’s students to be tomorrow’s innovators.
