For the best cost and supply-chain, CMOS is historically the ideal technology choice for components destined for high volume, cost-critical applications such as mobile phones. Once the preserve of digital-only circuits, we are increasingly seeing complex and sensitive RF and mixed signal functions making use of CMOS. Indeed within a modern mobile handset nearly every active component has migrated to CMOS technology – apart from the power amplifier.
